How You Can Help
There are many ways you can support the mission of Awake!
Below, you will find various opportunities to get involved from wherever you are, including current volunteer opportunities. If you’re ready to lend a hand, please fill out our Volunteer Interest Form at the bottom of the page. Once you submit this form, a member of Awake team will reach out to you with more details.
To familiarize yourself with Awake and our work, we invite you to explore our website (especially the information on our blog) and to attend some of our monthly public events, such as our virtual Courageous Conversations and prayer services.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our mission - your help makes a real difference!
Stay Informed and Communicate Our Mission:
Sign our Open Letter to Survivors as a gesture of solidarity and support
Sign up for our email newsletter to stay in the loop
Like and share Awake’s social media pages: Facebook / Instagram / LinkedIn / Twitter / YouTube
Tell family, friends, and fellow parishioners about Awake
Make a one-time or recurring donation to financially sustain our work
Volunteer Opportunities:
-
Post Comments Online (Monthly Opportunity): When new survivor stories are posted on the Awake blog, our community organizes a flood of supportive messages in the comments section. Sharing a story in this way is a very big step for some survivors, and you can be one of the people communicating compassion and kindness at this important moment.
Send Cards (Occasional Opportunity): From time to time, we create a special care package of written cards for a survivor who is going through a particularly difficult time. If you join our Encourager Ministry email list, you will occasionally be invited to mail a card to Milwaukee so it can be sent along to the survivor.
-
Prayer is vital to the work we do, and we would love to have you join us in interceding for Awake and members of our community! If you feel called to pray for our work and are willing to commit to consistently interceding for Awake and members of our community, this might be for you. When you sign up for this ministry, you will receive regular emails with current prayer intentions for Awake’s work and for survivors who request prayers.
-
Volunteering in this area could include one or more of the following:
Social Media
Regularly share Awake’s posts on social media with personal commentary on what Awake means to you or why you think it’s important in order to reach a wider audience
Events
We recognize the importance of a personal touch - perhaps you’d be willing to send personal invitations to Awake events to people within your sphere of influence either by social media invitations, email invites, and/or in person invitations
Are you good with Zoom tech? We always need people who can provide technical assistance during our prayer events and Courageous Conversations (admitting participants, creating breakout rooms on Zoom, loading audio/visual content, etc.)
Thank Yous
Write personal thank you cards to donors, event speakers, and volunteers within Awake
-
Do you have a good reading voice and confidence with public speaking? Many Awake events - particularly our prayer services - feature segments (survivor reflections, Scripture readings, book excerpts, etc.) that need readers. Sign up for this opportunity and we’ll contact you next time we need someone to read aloud for a virtual event.
-
Awake relies on the generosity of our donors to further our mission. Do you have fundraising or grant writing experience - or maybe just a passion for the mission and a desire to share it with others? Here are a few ways you might get involved:
Host fundraisers for Awake on your personal social media for birthdays or other occasions
Host a fundraising event for Awake at your home or other local establishment
Set up a personal fundraising page during Awake’s summer peer-to-peer appeal
Request donations to Awake in lieu of other gifts for celebrations like birthdays, retirements, or holidays
Research possible funding sources like grants, local parishes that have outreach funds, or points of contact in local dioceses and parishes
-
As a growing national organization, we are always looking for ways to increase awareness of Awake, especially at the local parish level. We’d love it if you could distribute Awake materials (brochures, business cards, pamphlets) at your local parish(es) or mention Awake to your pastor/parish staff.
